Santa Arrives533 viewsMattapoisett held its annual holiday celebration and tree lighting on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Shipyard Park. The rain couldn't dampen holiday spirits as visitors enjoyed delicious food and listened to Christmas music performed by the Showstoppers. Children made their own ornaments and hung them on the Christmas tree. They also danced with Rudolph and Frosty and shared their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus. Photo by Felix Perez.

Christmas Swim533 viewsA 2009 Christmas morning swim benefitted Helping Hands and Hooves, a Mattapoisett non-profit organization dedicated to therapeutic horseback riding for adults with disabilities. 40 swimmers and at least 50 onlookers participated in the 2009 swim. Freezin' for a Reason 2014533 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning.
