Hammond Quarry513 viewsMattapoisett Land Trust President Mike Huguenin led a group of about 52 people on a walk about Hammond Quarry, a historical property off Mattapoisett Neck Road that the MLT is hoping to acquire next year. Pink granite was mined from the site between the early 1700s through the early 1900s, and the MLT plans to purchase the property to preserve the quarries and carve out trails for public access. Mattapoisett Tree Committee513 viewsMattapoisett fifth grader Fiona Hoben won 1st prize in the Arbor Day poster contest sponsored by the Mattapoisett Tree Committee in partnership with the Massachusetts Urban and Community Forestry Program. Runner up was Camryn Maniatis. Fifteen students worked with Old Hammondtown School art instructor Greta Anderson. The posters were judged by a group of Mattapoisett residents whose understanding and appreciation of art brought professional level review to the event.

Mattapoisett YMCA513 viewsOn Sunday, October 20, the Mattapoisett YMCA hosted its first annual Harbor Brew Fest. Participants enjoyed this sunny day of local brew tastings, live music by Sean Carney, and fresh scallops, while overlooking beautiful Mattapoisett Harbor. A bonfire on the beach accompanied by a smores bar added to the fun. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Mattapoisett YMCA’s Annual Campaign that helps deserving children attend summer camp, preschool and afterschool care.
