Poker Run514 viewsMotorcyclists gathered Sunday morning, September 20, in the parking lot of ORR to ride in the third annual Poker Run for Alex Pateakos. Alex is a five-year-old Marion boy who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Money raised by the poker run will benefit Alex, and Families of SMA, a group that helps families like the Pateakos’ live their lives as close to normal as possible. The Poker Run covered 65 miles and ran through Lakeville, Carver, East Wareham, and back to ORR. Photo by Anne O'Brien-Kakley

Tradition at the Wayside514 viewsFor 30 years, Edward Days, with the help of his son Anthony, decorated the Wayside Shrine at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Mattapoisett. The shrine was built by Ray Fleurent who passed away this year. When Edward Days passed away 20 years ago, family continued the tradition for seven years. This past Sunday, in memory of his father and all Knights of Columbus, and with permission, Anthony gathered siblings and grandchildren to continue the tradition once again. Helping Hands and Hooves is a non-profit (based in Mattapoisett) that is dedicated to providing therapeutic horseback riding lessons for adults with disabilities.
