Tradition at the Wayside489 viewsFor 30 years, Edward Days, with the help of his son Anthony, decorated the Wayside Shrine at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Mattapoisett. The shrine was built by Ray Fleurent who passed away this year. When Edward Days passed away 20 years ago, family continued the tradition for seven years. This past Sunday, in memory of his father and all Knights of Columbus, and with permission, Anthony gathered siblings and grandchildren to continue the tradition once again. Helping Hands and Hooves is a non-profit (based in Mattapoisett) that is dedicated to providing therapeutic horseback riding lessons for adults with disabilities. Freezin' for a Reason 2014489 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. Santa Arrives488 viewsMattapoisett held its annual holiday celebration and tree lighting on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Shipyard Park. The rain couldn't dampen holiday spirits as visitors enjoyed delicious food and listened to Christmas music performed by the Showstoppers. Children made their own ornaments and hung them on the Christmas tree. They also danced with Rudolph and Frosty and shared their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus. Photo by Felix Perez.
