Cookies and Caring797 viewsSixth grade students at Old Hammondtown School in Mattapoisett recently prepared baskets of homemade cookies and other goodies as part of their eighth annual holiday program. With help from parents, teachers and staff, the students baked some 1,440 cookies to be packaged in about 130 handmade baskets for distribution to Mattapoisett seniors and shut-ins. Church Donates Books793 viewsThe steering committee of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church recently made a donation of books to first graders of the Hayden-McFadden Elementary School in New Bedford. The members of the church sought to give the gift of a book to each child in a single class at the north-side New Bedford school in an effort to promote the school’s literacy program.

Tie-Dyed at ORR793 viewsStudents in Ms. Gauvin’s eighth grade science class at Old Rochester Regional Junior High School learned about chemical reactions and colors during a tie-dye shirt-making session held this past week. Students Sowing Seeds790 viewsSecond graders at Rochester Memorial School received a grant of 200 bulbs from the North American Flowerbulb Wholesales Association, and small groups of students set the 178 bulbs around the school’s sign and on either side of the front door earlier this week.
