Stayin’ Alive 395 viewsSurvival Week at ORR Junior High kicked off on the early morning of Sunday, June 17, as the 7th-graders boarded the busses for Western Massachusetts for a week of roughing it in the wild. And for this generation, that simply means no electronic devices and no Dunkin’ Donuts. Survival is now in its 46th year and still going strong. Classroom Donation395 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust donated equipment to outfit an Outdoor Classroom, including a whiteboard and 24 colorful stools delivered to Old Hammondtown School by the Education Committee. Grade 5 students are working with Ben Squire, ORR District science coordinator, on an ongoing science compost project that analyzes the conditions needed for composting. AFS Club International dinner394 viewsOld Rochester Regional High School’s AFS Club held an international dinner in the cafeteria on Sunday evening. Students, parents, and community members were invited to bring a dish from another culture to share, so everyone could enjoy a unique and delicious meal. Upward of 50 people attended, including 12 foreign-exchange students in the SouthCoast area representing such countries as Japan, China, Thailand, Germany, Denmark, and Costa Rica. FORM Concert 394 viewsThe tri-town FORM concert brought together students whose combined musicality entertained a full house. The performers sang song style selections from spiritual to jazz and the crowd pleaser “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Rochester Memorial School. Combining the voices of nearly 300 students the finale was a soulful treatment of “Wade In The Water”. Funds raised through FORM concerts support scholarships awarded each year to graduating seniors who have completed at least two full years in a school music program.

Special Olympics Young Athletes394 viewsRoughly 120 Tabor Academy students volunteered on January 10 to assist with the school’s first session of the Special Olympics Young Athletes™ program held at Tabor. The program offers children ages 3-7 with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities to engage in physical activities vital to mental and physical growth. Spearheaded by Math teacher Tim Cleary and Tabor senior Molly Bent, sessions continue January 17 to March 6 (no session February 7) at 2:00 pm at the Fish Center for Athletics
