Each fourth grade class represented a word comprising the C.A.R.E.S. acronym: Cooperation, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control. The “Best…” and “Most Likely to…” seniors were celebrated that night, while students also mourned last week’s loss of ORR 2017 grad Becket Kiernan, last year’s winner of “Best Laugh” and “Unsung Hero,” who passed away in a California hospital just weeks after finishing his basic training for the Marines. Students in Nicole Radke’s fourth-grade classroom organized and ran the school’s most successful charity fundraiser in just two days. Upon learning about the tragedy of the Boston Marathon Bombings and reflecting upon the courage and bravery of the first responders, students asked their teacher, “Can we do something to help the people who are hurt?”
