Stayin’ Alive 415 viewsSurvival Week at ORR Junior High kicked off on the early morning of Sunday, June 17, as the 7th-graders boarded the busses for Western Massachusetts for a week of roughing it in the wild. And for this generation, that simply means no electronic devices and no Dunkin’ Donuts. Survival is now in its 46th year and still going strong. The Scoop on S.C.O.P.E. 415 viewsORRJHS 7th-grade students participated in the annual S.C.O.P.E. cardboard boat race at the beach at the Mattapoisett YMCA last Wednesday, June 20. The students engineer and build their boats – some sink, some sail – and this year team “Funky Monkey” came in first place. There were 15 boats in all this year, all created by teams of four. Summer Discovery Experience415 viewsOCRVTHS ran its 2nd Annual Summer Discovery Experience for students entering grades 4-9 the week of July 16-20. Over 100 students participated in selections that included metal art, welding, a combo of carpentry and CADD, auto maintenance, computer science, culinary arts, Lego robotics, electronics engineering, cosmetology, and sports. The show stars Storm Lanzoni as the charming and rather acrobatic Aladdin, Emma Zhou as Princess Jasmine, plus, not one, but three genies – Cattarinha Nunes as the Genie of the Ring, Jackson Veugen as the Genie of the Jewels, and Nicole Londergan as the Genie of the Lamp. Powder Puff Football414 viewsORR held its annual Powder Puff football game on Tuesday, November 20. Girls from the junior and senior classes played full-field flag football under the lights in front of an excited crowd.
