Bikes, Bikes, Bikes!443 viewsThe Third Annual Pan Mass Challenge Kids Tri-Town Ride attracted several hundred young bicyclist to the ORR campus on Saturday morning, May 16, for a bike rally to help defeat cancer. Proceeds from the event will go to several charities in the state such as the Jimmy Fund and Dana- Farber Cancer Institute to assist in cancer research. Residents watched the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department’s Ken Ballinger demonstrate K-9 tactics, got a feel for SWAT, EMS, and Fire vehicles; and enjoyed pizza and ice cream. Disaster Drill442 viewsFairhaven Fire Department hosted a full-scale exercise to improve emergency response in the region. Mattapoisett, Rochester, Dartmouth, Freetown, Acushnet, and New Bedford all responded to a disaster that simulated an accident between a school bus and an oil truck at Livesey Park in Fairhaven. Rabies Check442 viewsDavid Smith of the Rochester Land Trust recently accompanied Randy Mickley, a USDA Wildlife disease biologist, as he checked live mammal traps set in Marion and Rochester as part of the Cape Cod Oral Rabies Program. The goal is to establish a vaccine barrier in Plymouth County to prevent reintroduction of rabies to Cape Cod. Two raccoons were caught in Rochester and three in Marion.
