Nature Explorers411 viewsMattRec and the Marion Natural History Museum partnered for the second year to provide "Nature Explorers" summer program. The students explored several different locations around Mattapoisett this year. We visited Land Trust property off Mattapoisett Neck Road and Bob Field gave us a tour of his Oyster farming operation. Miss Inspirational411 viewsThe Miss Inspirational program took to the ORR stage and stole the show on Friday, May 6, during a packed auditorium assembled to see 29 young women of all abilities showcase their talents and accomplishments. Miss South Coast, Jillian Zucco, coordinated the fundraising event as part of her progress towards the upcoming Miss Massachusetts pageant. The Mattapoisett, Marion, and Rochester Police Departments were joined by the Tri-Town Fire and EMS Departments, Marion Harbormaster, and Marion Recreation. Dry Harvest411 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.

March of the Piping Plovers411 viewsRussel Saunders's massive canvass, "March of the Piping Plovers," now on exhibit at the Marion Art Center's Winter Member's Show, immediately draws the viewer into the scene. The process of transferring a photograph to canvass, in this case, a 55-inch by 40-inch fine art canvass, requires an extraordinary, high-resolution image. "I used a Sony camera that could produce a 20,000,000-pixel image," he explained. The effect is like walking into the image. "It has a 3D quality."

TriTown Clean-up411 viewsOn a recent sunny Saturday afternoon, the ORR Community Service Learning Club, the ORR Environmental Club, and Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 came together to help the Mattapoisett Land Trust.
