Tour de Crème414 viewsThis Sunday was the third annual Tour de Crème, a fundraising partnership between the Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path. The ride started at the Town Beach and wound its way through the Southcoast, making stops at the various creameries along the way. Proceeds of the ride will go towards maintaining the MLT trails and the extension of the bike path to the Mattapoisett/Marion town line. Photos by Glenn C. Silva

Strengthening Families Fair413 viewsThere was so much to do and discover on March 1 at the “Strengthening Families Fair”, funded by the Department of Early Education & Care, and coordinated by the Old Rochester Regional School District. Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association413 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. Miss South Coast, Jillian Zucco, coordinated the fundraising event as part of her progress towards the upcoming Miss Massachusetts pageant. Dry Harvest413 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.
