Dry Harvest444 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.

Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race444 viewsThe Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race wound its way along the Mattapoisett River for its 84th year. This year’s weather was a major improvement from last year’s soaking, but overall participation was down this year. Still, those who have been racing year after year made it another successful race, continuing an important Tri-Town tradition. Photos by Jean Perry

New Year’s Eve444 viewsThe Taber Library knows that it’s hard for the little ones to stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve, which is why Children’s Librarian Rosemary Grey hosted a midday mock-midnight New year’s Eve-Day party, complete with party tiaras, horns, snacks, and don’t forget the bubbly apple juice!
