Strengthening Families Fair385 viewsThere was so much to do and discover on March 1 at the “Strengthening Families Fair”, funded by the Department of Early Education & Care, and coordinated by the Old Rochester Regional School District. The gymnasium at the ORR High School was set up like a kids’ wonderland, with art projects, reading activities, brightly-colored gymnastics equipment, a flowing rainbow parachute, and…everyone’s favorite local children’s music group, “the Toe Jam Puppet Band.” Photo by Jean Perry

Summer Days385 views Buzzards Bay was active this past Labor Day weekend with boaters and residents out enjoying the late summer weather on this unofficial last weekend of the summertime season. The colors of summer will soon shift to the colors of fall in the harbor, but not before a few more opportunities to take out those kayaks and sailboats with friends and family. Metacomet385 viewsThe bronze sculpture “Metacomet” will be on display at the Mattapoisett Historical Museum for the next few weeks, on loan from artist David Englund. Englund has a penchant for the underdog, saying he chose Metacomet AKA King Phillip as his subject matter because of history’s bias against him. “I knew his history as a warrior and I know he wasn’t given a fair shake by the historians,” said Englund. Memorial Day Boat Race385 viewsThe Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race went off with very few hitches, despite the bursting of the bog flume at Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir just a couple days before the race. This year the weather was fine – maybe a tad hot for the racers, says Boat Race Chairman Art Benner, but great weather to kick off the summer season. Photos by Jean Perry
