Tour de Crème364 viewsThis year’s 4th annual Tour de Crème raised $12,000 for outdoor recreation in Mattapoisett! There were 350 riders consuming over 1,200 scoops of ice cream all for a good cause. Tropical Storm Earl363 viewsBoth Mattapoisett and Marion docks were busy spots last week when the National Weather Service issued a Hurricane Warning to the region. Plymouth county, in addition to Cape Cod, the Islands, and Bristol county, prepared for Hurricane Earl, a category 3 hurricane that stood the potential to make landfall in southeastern Massachusetts. Varsity Girls363 viewsThe Varsity Girls – Jillian “JiJi” Zucco, Simone Cardosa, Kimber-Lee Jacobsen and Jillian Jensen – opened for musical guest, James Taylor, and President Obama at Governor Deval Patrick's Rally on Saturday, October 16 in an overcrowded hall at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The local teens performed three songs (one cover and two originals) prior to James Taylor performing three selections of his own and President Obama taking the stage to address those in attendance. The Sippican School and Old Hammondtown bands performed, while festivities also included parades, speeches, and ceremonies from the American Legion and VFW. National Night Out363 viewsThe Tri-Town’s inaugural edition of National Night Out drew a big and enthusiastic crowd on Tuesday. Residents watched the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department’s Ken Ballinger demonstrate K-9 tactics, got a feel for SWAT, EMS, and Fire vehicles; and enjoyed pizza and ice cream. Nature Explorers363 viewsMattRec and the Marion Natural History Museum partnered for the second year to provide "Nature Explorers" summer program. The students explored several different locations around Mattapoisett this year. We visited Land Trust property off Mattapoisett Neck Road and Bob Field gave us a tour of his Oyster farming operation.
