Christmas Day Swim373 viewsOn Christmas Day 2014, about 50 hardy souls, young and old alike, ran with yelps of joy into 42-degree winter waters at Mattapoisett’s Town Beach. This annual event raises funds for Helping Hands and Hooves, a nonprofit organization in Mattapoisett that provides horseback riding lessons and therapeutic sessions for people with special needs. Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association373 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. Supermoon Eclipse373 viewsA blood red Harvest Moon hangs above Ned’s Point in Mattapoisett where some people had a stellar view of the rare celestial event of a total lunar eclipse of a supermoon. Dozens came to watch the moon on Sunday night as it passed through the Earth’s shadow between 9:07 pm, when the partial eclipse began, and 12:27 am when the spectacle ended. Photo by Colin Veitch

ORRHS Class Olympics373 viewsIt was freshmen vs. sophomores vs. juniors vs. seniors on March 4 during the ORRHS Class Olympics. The four grades competed against each other in games like the egg toss, Pictionary, and the three-legged race for a cash deposit into their class bank account. Seniors took first place that day.
