Hurricane Heights299 viewsSigns on a telephone poll alongside Mattapoisett Neck Road at the south end of the causeway at Molly’s Cove indicate flood levels that have resulted from historic storms. Looking north, one can see the marsh area that has become, along with the road itself, a topic of concern resulting in a study meant to address long-term access to and from the neck. Vegan298 viewsTo vegan or not to vegan? That was the question taste testers answered when the Mattapoisett Library hosted another chapter of their sustainable initiative programming on February 26. Library Director Jennifer Jones prepared and served vegan substitutes of chicken, hot dogs, sausage, and lunchmeat. The participants nibbled each offering with great anticipation. The overriding takeaway was that some faux meats might be acceptable in a casserole. Photo by Marilou Newell March 3, 2022 edition

Wild Turkeys291 viewsWild turkeys as depicted by contributing writer and artist George B. Emmons, whose column in this issue discusses the revival of the bird symbolic to America’s Thanksgiving tradition. Despite being brought to America by colonists in 1620, hunting and deforestation had made them scarce in the northeast until U.S. Fish and Wildlife began transplanting them back from other areas in 1969. Now they are plentiful and roam freely in our neighborhoods. Illustration by George B. Emmons
