Marion Art Center312 viewsVincent Mancini’s depiction of a Native American man is one of many the artist has produced out of cut feathers. Mancini’s work, along with laser-wood creations by Native American artist Makerjake, aka Jacob Ginga, and regalia pieces supplied by Narragansett tribal member Max Brown-Garcia, is on display as part of the “Exploring Native American Culture: Art, Craft, and Inspiration” exhibit at the Marion Art Center through March 25. Brotherhood Ride 304 viewsJosh Fardy Jr., 21 months, had himself a ball the way only a kid can, stomping his firefighter boots to the music and splashing in a puddle during the June 12 Kids Brotherhood Ride at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School. The Marion resident's father, Josh Fardy Sr., is a Marion firefighter. Children preregistered for the event that raised upwards of $3,000 that will go to families affected by the loss of a first responder in the line of duty. Tunnel Trouble304 viewsAn underground tunnel was recently discovered beside the Marion Town House running in the direction of the Elizabeth Taber Library. It was learned that the tunnel extends all the way to the front of Sippican Elementary School. It houses an active sewer line and shows evidence of other functions that could date back to the origins of the buildings. Photo by Mick Colageo - August 5, 2021 edition

Rose Bowman302 viewsRose Bowman, seen on Monday outside Center School, is retiring as principal of Mattapoisett Schools at the end of this academic year. Bowman’s career dates back to 1971 when she began teaching at the Hathaway School in New Bedford. She has been serving in the Old Rochester Regional School District over 30 years and says that education has evolved so that children are consumed less with rote instruction and now are learning how to think through creative problem-solving. Seven Stars301 viewsAfter spending the past 20 years building his dream sailboat in his yard in upstate New York, Paul Thompson intended to launch his boat in Newport, Rhode Island, but had trouble finding a transport company to haul the boat down to New England shores until Mattapoisett-based Tom Brownell arranged to bring “Seven Stars” to Mattapoisett Harbor, where it was finally launched on August 14.
