The Mattapoisett native sailed his 27-foot boat Why Worry on a solo journey that took him as far as Turks and Caicos south of the Bahamas. During the summer months, Serene is moored in Mattapoisett Harbor when it's not working the waters off Martha’s Vineyard. Lobster fishing has been part of the New England way of life for decades. Holiday at Shipyard Park499 viewsMattapoisett’s annual Holiday at Shipyard Park was held on December 14 to the delight of the young and not-so-young. The family-centered event featured Mr. and Mrs. Clause, Frosty, and Rudolph as well as a really big beach chair. The holiday tree was festooned with decorated buoys in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Refreshments were provided by area eateries offering a wide variety of goodies and fan favorite hot chocolate. December 19, 2024 edition

Originally constructed by gift shop owner Henry Dunseith in the pre-Route 195 mid-1950s when Route 6 was the main thoroughfare to Cape Cod, Salty’s future was as up in the air as his snout before a restoration project in 2000 ensured his long-term future. Transported by the Rochester Fire Department on a journey that began at Fire Station No. 3 at 200 Ryder Road and accompanied by Santa’s helpers riding along in trucks, Mr. and Mrs. Claus made their way down many Rochester roads, spending hours to visit hundreds of children waiting at the end of their driveways and on street corners.
