Feestaardvarken536 viewsFeestaardvarken (Party Aardvark) is a 30-meter long (98 feet) concrete sculpture located in the center of Arnhem in the Netherlands. The sculpture was commissioned by Burgers’ Zoo to commemorate their 100th anniversary in 2013. It was created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, who has many great works including a giant rubber duck that has been displayed around the world. Ellis Mendell (1834-1907), the Mattapoisett postmaster around the turn of the century, kept a list of the many ways he has seen Mattapoisett misspelled on the letters that have passed through his post office. Mattapoisett Woman’s Club535 viewsThe Mattapoisett Woman’s Club planted 1,500 King Alfred trumpet daffodil bulbs last fall. Today the glory of that effort is in full bloom across the community. Club member Roxanne Bungert spearheaded the effort after visiting Newport Rhode Island, where as many as one million bulbs have been planted over the years she attested. “We planted in several locations around town with the support and assistance of the Highway Department,” she said.
