Nutcracker in New Bedford1271 viewsSasha Nochimow of Marion will portray “Clara” in the New Bedford Ballet’s production of the Mini Nutcracker to be staged in the Alves Theater, 430 County Street in New Bedford, on Saturday, December 10 at 7:00 and 8:00 pm; Sunday, December 11 at 2:00 and 3:00 pm; Friday, December 16 at 7:00 and 8:00 pm; and Sunday, December 18 at 2:00 and 3:00 pm. DARE Returns1270 viewsRochester Patrolman and DARE Officer Kevin Flynn instructs one of four sixth grade classes at Rochester Memorial School about the dangers and health risks associated with smoking cigarettes. Officer Flynn and Rochester Police Chief Paul Magee recently pushed to revive the DARE Program at the town’s elementary school, despite cutbacks in state aid. Teaming Up Against Cancer1266 viewsMembers of “Team Bertha,” a group of five local mothers and daughters, will walk almost 40 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer with thousands of others to help find a cure. Team Bertha consists of Margaret (Mardee) Xifaras of Marion and her daughters, Juliet Xifaras of Fairhaven and Dena Xifaras of Roslindale, MA and Rochester resident Sharon Hartley and her daughter Amy Hartley-Matteson of Mattapoisett.

Yoga for Youth1223 viewsStudents at Sippican School in Marion enjoy the benefits of yoga classes which have been sponsored at the school by the non-profit Yoga Kids, Inc. for the past six years. Teachers have noted marked improvement in students who take yoga classes as it helps them to better concentrate in class.
