Restoring Ram Island648 viewsHelicopters complete rounds from the Mattapoisett marina to Ram Island on March 8, 2010. The helicopters are part of the Ram Island Restoration Project, which is an effort to rebuild the eroded island so common and roseate terns can nest in their natural habitat. The helicopters will deliver 650 cubic feet of soil to the island and workers will then plant vegetation to prevent further erosion. Photo by Anne O'Brien-Kakley.

Snow Flowers648 viewsThese sad-sallow daffodils in front of the Rochester Town Hall look pretty much like how we all felt Sunday morning when we woke up and looked out the window. The region experienced a strange series of snow squalls coupled with high winds on April 3, followed by a late spring snow and slush storm on Monday that manifested into unalloyed New England hell. Weed is the Word 647 viewsWe visited BASK, the 10,000 square-foot medicinal marijuana cultivation operation and dispensary in Fairhaven that recently opened on Pequod Way, and toured the facility with Mattapoisett resident and BASK CEO Chapman “Chappy” Dickerson. Dickerson says the family-run business sees plenty of “average, regular” folks from Mattapoisett who have chosen marijuana as an alternative to addictive prescription drugs. April 2 was the day dispensaries could apply for dual licenses for both medicinal and recreational m

Bloom (and Gloom) 647 viewsThe “bloom is off” the $7.9 million Marion Town House renovation article, which was defeated 214-120 on Monday night during the Annual Town Meeting. For now, the Town House will remain in its current state, which we think right now looks quite lovely juxtaposed behind the cherry blossom tree in full bloom outside. Photo by Jean Perry
