Operation Osprey628 viewsThey’re back! We have been regularly checking the osprey nest platform at Brainard Marsh, a Sippican Lands Trust property in Marion, for the return of our osprey friends after the long spring migration back to Buzzards Bay. An osprey pair will mate for life and return to their regular nesting area after the two-week 2,700 mile journey from South America back to coastal Massachusetts.

Marooned in Marion 628 viewsThe March 2 storm left a trail of destruction throughout the Tri-Town. This severed telephone pole surrounded by wires and downed trees remained an obstacle on Delano Road for over 24 hours, according to Marion Police Chief John Garcia. The road was shut down, and for some time there was no access to the east side of town, Garcia told The Wanderer on Saturday. Photo by Jean Perry

House Boat626 viewsOn September 22, a construction crew continues to work on dislodging a house on Wilber’s Point in Fairhaven. The house will be loaded onto a barge and floated over Buzzard’s Bay to its new location on Brant Beach Ave. in Mattapoisett. Since tides and winds are critical to safely moving the house, the move has been rescheduled several times. Photo by Anne O’Brien-Kakley

Bye, Bye, Birdie...626 views The summer has ended and soon it will be time for this handsome guy to head on south, or maybe not? Like some bird species, it’s becoming less uncommon for goldfinches to remain with us all winter, so long as the food supply is steady. Goldfinches love sunflowers, and as you can see, this one doesn’t care who’s watching him devour this glorious sunflower seed by beak-watering seed. Photo by Jean Perry - September 26, 2019 edition

Mattapoisett Town Wharf624 views The historic swordfish soaring over the Mattapoisett Town Wharf recently got a bit of TLC from its long-time caregiver William DeYong Field. Patricia Hinsdale donated the weathervane to the Town back in the 1950s. Photos by Jean Perry

Bloom (and Gloom) 624 viewsThe “bloom is off” the $7.9 million Marion Town House renovation article, which was defeated 214-120 on Monday night during the Annual Town Meeting. For now, the Town House will remain in its current state, which we think right now looks quite lovely juxtaposed behind the cherry blossom tree in full bloom outside. Photo by Jean Perry
