Dear Santa… 637 viewsThis special mailbox has stood at the corner of Walnut Plain Road and High Street in Rochester since the start of the holiday season for area boys and girls to express mail their letters to Santa in time for the big day. Read about one boy who visited the mailbox this year with an urgent message for Santa on how to find him this Christmas in the latest installment of “This Imperfect Life” by Jean Perry. Strong as steel 637 viewsShe’s got her heavy duty gloves, helmet, and her steel-toe boots, and she’s ready to show a group of boys and girls that welding is cool, fun, and definitely for girls. Rochester’s Emma Makuch, a freshman at Old Colony, is also a Junior Friend of the Plumb Library and on February 19 she shared her knowledge with a group of kids as part of the library’s February vacation lineup to keep kids entertained and learning. 3D printed masks637 viewsSteve Methia's 3D printer produces a face shield on Wednesday afternoon. The Mattapoisett resident, a retiree, works primarily with motorcycles and furniture but has repurposed his hobby shop and office and with donations of equipment has two printers working morning to night to produce these shields for medical and front-line workers at no cost. Flower Power 634 viewsThe village of Marion is bursting with colorful blooms as spring sprung suddenly upon us in the Tri-Town region. These tulips were a literal traffic-stopping splash of color in the sun on Cottage Street across from the Marion Music Hall on Tuesday. Photo by Jean Perry

Colorblindness Corrective Glasses634 viewsI was colorblind, but now I see – The Mattapoisett Lions Club has donated a pair of colorblindness corrective glasses to the Mattapoisett Library, and are now part of the library’s ever-growing collection of ‘things’ to check out. Last time, my partner Scott and I checked out a metal detector and had ourselves an adventure. This time, we checked out the glasses and took them around town to see if Scott, who was born with a red-green color vision deficit, could catch a glimpse of a world in vivid color.

Last Snow? Hope So!633 viewsEven though the February 10, 2010 nor'easter didn't bring as much snow as forecasters predicted, it was still a sizable late winter storm. Pictured on the front cover is the Hiller Farm in Rochester the day after the storm, where even the horses are dreaming about spring. Photo by Anne O'Brien-Kakley. February 18, 2010 edition
