Decimated Designs247 viewsKyle Pasciutti works on a haunted look for Heidi Leger during Tuesday night’s demonstration at the Mattapoisett Library, where the owner of Connecticut-based Decimated Designs turned local faces into living Halloween masks. Michelle Skaar of the library’s young adult programming invited the makeup artist for her teen group, but it quickly became apparent that mask making is a cross-generational activity. Pasciutti decided to pursue makeup when he was a theater art major in college.

Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 247 viewsFrom left, Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 members Lowell Copps, Rafael Duarte and Joseph Higgins install one of 10 birdhouses that were placed along the powerline property off Crystal Spring Road on Saturday. Helen Lozoraitis and Paul Duffy donated the birdhouse kits for the scouts to construct and installed the poles for mounting. With an assortment of hole sizes, the houses will attract a variety of birds that will consume many mosquitoes. Photo courtesy of Wendy Copps - June 15, 2023 edition

Ned's Point Wind243 viewsIt's a bird, it's a plane, it's … Labor Day weekend at Ned’s Point in Mattapoisett, where the sky turned into a life-size aquarium. Visitors to the park on Saturday launched large and lively kites mimicking the movement of varying sea-life creatures. Held back by gusty breezes, the "fish" faced the lighthouse as if preparing for a feeding frenzy. Children ran in the grass, while many sat in lawn chairs along the perimeter and just took it all in. Island Wharf241 viewsA severely deteriorated seawall at Island Wharf is one of four major projects facing the Marion Harbormaster Department as it prepares grant applications and an operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024. Also in dire need of funding is decaying infrastructure at Old Landing, the town’s 17-year-old patrol boat and the planned Marine Center that in two years has become $1,000,000 more expensive due to inflated construction costs.
