Almanac.com says that these fall perennials should be planted before the first freeze and that while they prosper in direct sunlight, they will grow in some measure of shade provided the ground is not too wet. As of May 4, there is a long way to go to harvest, but the program meant to educate children and help instill nutritional awareness and farming skills includes crops such as radishes capable of the full cycle to harvest before the last day of school. Helen Lozoraitis and Paul Duffy donated the birdhouse kits for the scouts to construct and installed the poles for mounting.
