Almanac.com says that these fall perennials should be planted before the first freeze and that while they prosper in direct sunlight, they will grow in some measure of shade provided the ground is not too wet. Visitors to the park on Saturday launched large and lively kites mimicking the movement of varying sea-life creatures. Held back by gusty breezes, the "fish" faced the lighthouse as if preparing for a feeding frenzy. Children ran in the grass, while many sat in lawn chairs along the perimeter and just took it all in. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. As of May 4, there is a long way to go to harvest, but the program meant to educate children and help instill nutritional awareness and farming skills includes crops such as radishes capable of the full cycle to harvest before the last day of school.
