Butterfly Cover602 viewsThis local monarch butterfly seen feeding on this butterfly bush will soon take part in the great fall migration across the continent that could take it as far as southwestern Mexico, a seemingly impossible 3,000-mile journey for a creature of such delicateness. She won’t be returning to the Tri-Town, though, after wintering for months in the Mexican mountains with the millions of other monarchs. Instead, she will make her way back up north, but only as far as Texas, where she will find some local milkweed.

Turtle Power710 viewsHello, there. I’m a handsome, male painted turtle from Rochester currently making my habitat at Doggett’s Brook. I enjoy sunning myself on rocks and logs and swimming in the slow-moving water, and eating insects, fish, and plants. I don’t have any teeth, but I have cool stripes and razor-sharp claws. I’m looking for a female who loves basking in the warm sun, mating, and wants lots of kids. April 4, 2019 edition

Eastover Donkey872 viewsIt’s been ‘donkey’s ears’ since we’ve featured a furry friend from Eastover Farm on our cover! This donkey was out Saturday afternoon sniffing around patches of ground that weren’t still covered with snow. It strolled over to say hello until the ‘click’ of the camera shutter spooked it into another direction towards another snow-free patch of ground. Photo by Jean Perry February 28, 2019 edition
