On June 30 officials and community members held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Mattapoisett fire station adjacent to the police station on Route 6. Chief Andrew Murray thanked the voters and town boards for their overwhelming support after what he said was a nearly four-decade effort to secure funding for a safe, modern structure.
