Hammond Cemetery, located along River Road and acquired by the Town of Mattapoisett (then part of Rochester) on January 10, 1789, is home to burials dating prior to 1740. Like the town-owned Barlow Cemetery located off Park Street, the Hammond burial ground is in dire need of maintenance and will benefit greatly by the formation of a new committee that will advise the Select Board.
