ORCTV invites you to come and share the holiday spirit with us! Old Rochester Community Television is offering another Holiday Greetings shoot for your family, organization, or group. We are opening up our studios on December 10 and 11 for you to sing a song, tell a story, or just say happy holidays to your fellow Tri-Town residents. This is a nice way to bring in the seasonal spirit or to bring awareness to your business, event, or organization. Yes, even a business can go on air and say Happy Holidays from XYZ company. ORCTV will cover the technical aspects. You just need to come in and spread your holiday cheer for the cameras!

The Holiday Greetings will play on the local cable channels and can be seen by thousands of Tri-Town residents. ORCTV channels are seen by anyone who has Comcast or Verizon cable. Use this opportunity to raise awareness for your mission and goals or to let residents know who you are. This is a free service to local residents, nonprofits, organizations, groups, and town departments.

New Appointees Top Agenda

During a quick session in advance of next week’s Fall Town Meeting, the Mattapoisett Board of Selectmen made appointments to the Mattapoisett School Committee and the Council on Aging.

Carter Hunt will take over Grace Knox’s vacated seat on the Mattapoisett School Committee, after a recommendation from the membership he will soon join and a brief interview from the Selectmen.

Hunt told the Selectmen that he has three children in Mattapoisett schools: two at Old Hammondtown, and one at Center School.

“If I can give back to the school system, get involved at the civic level, it’s something positive,” said Hunt, adding that his background as a hospital administrator would help in budgetary matters. “You’re asked to do things better with limited resources coming in.”

Gayle Jarvis, meanwhile, was appointed to the Council on Aging.

Elsewhere on the agenda, the Selectmen approved the Mother’s Day Tiara Road Race for its eighth annual event in Mattapoisett in May of 2014. Organizers expressed their appreciation for public safety and other town officials. The Town Hall’s Melody Pacheco said that Mattapoisett’s only concern in re-authorizing the race is the need for a greater emphasis on canned goods for local pantries in “dire need.”

The Selectmen discussed Article 18 on the Fall Town Meeting warrant, which will ask for a $50,000 fund transfer from the Stabilization Fund and expenditure as a “good-faith move forward” toward the acquisition of 27 acres of conservation land. The funds will be returned if expected grants from the state and federal government don’t come through and the purchase falls apart, rather than reimbursed regardless, as the Selectmen said they were originally informed.

Fall Town Meeting takes place on November 18, 6:30 pm, in the ORRHS auditorium.

The next Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for December 17.
