Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race38 viewsCompetitors in the Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race were greeted by fog and a high tide, but the sun burned through the cloud cover, and the competitors emerged on the home stretch to the finish line where the Mattapoisett River reaches Route 6. Cardboard Boats38 viewsGrade 7 students at Old Rochester Regional Junior High School took to the beach on Tuesday morning for a field day at the Mattapoisett YMCA that featured a cardboard boat race. Children learned how to load a musket, Boy Scouts Troop 31 demonstrated archery skills, visitors enjoyed live music and baked goods and those who ducked inside the 1857 East Rochester Church were treated to an amazing display of artifacts. Polar Plunge38 viewsOn New Years Day, hundreds were arrayed at Mattapoisett Town Beach for this year’s Mattapoisett Polar Plunge. Since 2013, the beach has seen residents and visitors run into the freezing Atlantic to kick off the new year. The event is held by Keep On Plungin’ who, through the selling of baked goods, coffee, and hot chocolate, donate all proceeds of the fridged plunge to local families grappling with the costs of cancer treatment.
