Car Show58 viewsThe September 5 car show and sock hop held at the Rochester Council on Aging found the grounds filled with more than 85 vintage cars and several hundred spectators. The fundraiser also featured raffles, along with hamburgers and hot dogs cooked up by the Rochester Fire Department. Handling the root beer float station were members of the Police Department. On hand were members of the Plymouth County TRIAD, a nationally recognized program linking seniors with local safety strategies and agencies.

Salty Soirée58 viewsSince 2007, the Mattapoisett Land Trust has invited the community to a soirée at the site of Salty the Seahorse. The Halloween themed party on October 19 featured musical performances by Jeff and Lisa Dunn, storytelling by the campfire with Karen Chace, and make-your-own s’mores. Marion Natural History Museum58 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group wishes to thank Marion Conservation and Planning Agent Doug Guay-Lee for helping us to understand what a watershed is and how to protect it. The kids had fun designing their own watersheds and developing different techniques to handle flooding and other issues. Marion Art Center 58 viewsThe Marion Art Center opened its latest exhibit on Saturday featuring the pastel artistry of partners Janet Schwartz and Dave Kaphammer. For years, Kaphammer has been honing his talent for working in a medium that most other artists consider difficult: pastels. Through his vision for finding interesting subjects like abandoned tractors in a field or the way sunlight plays in shadows at the end of an afternoon, we are invited to enter his world of color and shape.

Tidelines58 viewsOn May 24, the Marion Art Center opened its newest exhibit by Peter Stone titled “Tidelines.” Stone is a teacher, a philosopher of all things ecological, and a masterful artist. The paintings evoke nature’s many moods through tonal interpretations. The exhibit is open until June 15. On June 7, Stone will give a gallery talk at 11:00 am.
