Osprey Rescue221 viewsThe Osprey who was impaled by fishing hooks and left dangling from a power line has been released. Several weeks ago, an adult Osprey was found dangling from a power line in Mattapoisett. He was 20 feet up and had one end of a fishing lure through his foot and the other end lodged deep into his left pectoral muscle. The entanglement caused him to become stuck upside down on the line and he was left struggling to free himself. After a significant rescue effort, he was brought to our hospital for treatment.

We welcomed Dianna Doucette and Erin Flynn of Public Archaeology Labs (PALS), who had conducted a survey of the museum’s artifacts in 1998. Library Treasures220 viewsWord spread of the Antiques Roadshow-style fundraiser at the Mattapoisett Library on March 29, attracting scores of South Coasters clutching their treasures, antiques, and heirlooms for appraisal and admiration, hoping Francis McNamee of the Marion Antique Shop might discover worth in their belongings beyond their sentimental value. Ned’s Point Easter220 viewsThe sky was blue above the greening grass on that sunny spring Mattapoisett morning by the sea. On April 12, families gathered at Ned’s Point to celebrate Easter early with a traditional Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Mattapoisett Lions Club. The Easter Bunny hopped over for a visit, giving children hugs and high-fives as parents scurried to take photos and comfort the smaller ones who were a little reluctant to approach. Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 220 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School. 100th Birthday220 viewsRalph Winfield Walker is celebrating a milestone 100th birthday on May 7. Born in 1914, Walker moved to Rochester in 1946 and served on the Finance Committee before serving as selectman for several terms. Walker is credited as the selectman that brought street signs to the roads of Rochester. As the oldest person in Town, Walker holds the Boston Post cane, a longstanding tradition in New England towns. Family and friends honored Walker on May 5 at the Island Terrace Nursing Home where he now resides. Photos

Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day220 viewsLittle kids and big, big machines on a warm spring Marion morning made for tons of fun at the Marion Recreation’s Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day on May 10. A row of different Town-owned vehicles including a police cruiser, ambulance, earth diggers, a fire engine, and fire trucks lined the Town House field. Onlookers filled the lawn and spilled out into the street to watch the Memorial Day ceremony with special guest speaker Navy Reserve Commander Paul J.
