Stayin’ Alive 257 viewsSurvival Week at ORR Junior High kicked off on the early morning of Sunday, June 17, as the 7th-graders boarded the busses for Western Massachusetts for a week of roughing it in the wild. And for this generation, that simply means no electronic devices and no Dunkin’ Donuts. Survival is now in its 46th year and still going strong. Some, like Survival leader Kevin “KT the Kilt Man” Thompson, have attended Survival since they were 7th-graders 30 years ago. Photos by Jean Perry

Barbie Garden257 viewsTeresa Dall’s Barbie Garden at 16 North Street embodies what most of us feel most of the time: That life is terrifying, but the kids are watching, so, put on that smile and enjoy the ride! The Barbie Garden is a permanent fixture of the Mattapoisett village neighborhood, and now two generations have had the pleasure of watching Dall’s Barbie Garden grow square foot by square foot into what it is today – something that makes you think and definitely makes you smile. 48th Annual Mattapoisett Road Race 257 viewsThe 48th Annual Mattapoisett Road Race once again brought out young and old alike. Overcast skies were welcomed but the July 4th heat was tough for the runners and the cheering crowds who begged for shade. The field of runners was well over 1,000 and coming in first was Joe Farrand at 26:59. Shortly after, the first female to finish was Kim Bolick at 29:54. Before the starting gun sounded there was a moment of silence in honor of Maurice “Mudgie” Tavares who established the Mattapoisett Track Club, and the

Mother’s Day Tiara 5k257 viewsSunday’s wind and rain wasn’t stopping the hundreds who participated in the annual Mother’s Day Tiara 5k in Mattapoisett on May 10. The storm brought strong wind and cold rain to the area, especially at the turn around Ned’s Point Lighthouse, dampening the day but not the sentiment behind the Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts’ largest annual fundraising event. New Year’s Eve257 viewsThe Taber Library knows that it’s hard for the little ones to stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve, which is why Children’s Librarian Rosemary Grey hosted a midday mock-midnight New year’s Eve-Day party, complete with party tiaras, horns, snacks, and don’t forget the bubbly apple juice!
