Marion Town Party316 viewsChalk up another successful Marion Town Party as several hundred party-goers found good food and fun on the grounds of the Town House on 8/25. Children of all ages enjoyed inflatable games, climbing the rock wall, or jumping around to music. The annual party has its roots deep in the community and may have started as early at 1900. This year’s event featured live entertainment, a scavenger hunt, and lots of good food.

Over 100 firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel from the Tri-Town and beyond marched together down Route 6 in Mattapoisett on March 3 to pay their respects to their fallen comrade who suffered a cardiac arrest at home after assisting in a fire call the night before. Lost Elm316 viewsMattapoisett has lost one of the last remaining American elm trees planted throughout the community during the mid-twentieth century. Tree Warden Roland Cote said that despite valiant efforts over the past year to save this once grand specimen located in Shipyard Park, the tree lost its battle with Dutch Elm disease. Concern over public safety helped Cote make the difficult decision to take the tree down. Cote said a red maple tree would be planted nearby. Photo by Marilou Newell
