48th Annual Mattapoisett Road Race 318 viewsThe 48th Annual Mattapoisett Road Race once again brought out young and old alike. Overcast skies were welcomed but the July 4th heat was tough for the runners and the cheering crowds who begged for shade. The field of runners was well over 1,000 and coming in first was Joe Farrand at 26:59. Shortly after, the first female to finish was Kim Bolick at 29:54. Lost Elm318 viewsMattapoisett has lost one of the last remaining American elm trees planted throughout the community during the mid-twentieth century. Tree Warden Roland Cote said that despite valiant efforts over the past year to save this once grand specimen located in Shipyard Park, the tree lost its battle with Dutch Elm disease. Concern over public safety helped Cote make the difficult decision to take the tree down. Cote said a red maple tree would be planted nearby. Photo by Marilou Newell

Mattapoisett Museum318 viewsThe Mattapoisett Museum opened its Summer 2019 exhibit on June 27 titled “Inspiration: Time & Texture.” Local artists, including members of Center School’s third grade class, created works of art inspired by objects in the museum or of historical significance to the town. Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition 318 viewsOn September 8, the 5th annual Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition featured a variety of flavorful chowders from restaurants and public safety facilities from Fairhaven, Rochester, and Mattapoisett. BBC Watershed Ride318 viewsThe Buzzards Bay Coalition’s 13th annual Watershed Ride pedaled its way through the Tri-Town on Sunday, October 6, taking participants on three different courses that wound through the land that surrounds Buzzards Bay the way gold enfolds a pearl.
