Marion Natural History Museum338 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group enjoyed a woodland walk to collect various items from nature. The group collected pinecones, smelled sassafras trees, and had a great time collecting many colors of fallen leaves. Then it was back to the museum to construct plant presses and design colorful specimens. The group will bring their completed works back in a couple of weeks to laminate them. Many thanks to the parent volunteers and Tabor community service volunteers for all their help.

Salty's Hat338 viewsMattapoisett’s most beloved seahorse got his Santa hat on Tuesday, December 4. The Mattapoisett Land Trust’s annual tradition continues with help from the folks at Brownell Systems and their trusty crane. This year Alan Johnson braved a fear of heights to place the hat on top of Salty the Seahorse’s head just right as MLT’s Jenny Mello directed from below and Brownell’s Tom Checkman operated the crane’s controls. Memorial Day Boat Race338 viewsThe Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race went off with very few hitches, despite the bursting of the bog flume at Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir just a couple days before the race. This year the weather was fine – maybe a tad hot for the racers, says Boat Race Chairman Art Benner, but great weather to kick off the summer season. Photos by Jean Perry

Cardboard Boats338 viewsSCOPE Week meant big fun at the beach in Mattapoisett for ORR Junior High seventh-graders who built their own boats and then raced them on June 5 in Mattapoisett. While half the students head off for Survival, the others enjoy a week of equally challenging tasks of the 40-year tradition of SCOPE that gives students a chance to learn while learning about themselves and each other. Grandparent's Day337 viewsIt was a perfect autumn day for the SouthCoast Senior Resource Alliance Grandparents Day at Hiller Farm in Rochester on September 19. Children and their grandparents had fun playing bean-bag toss, bocce, posing with the Three Stooges, and more. The face-painting and petting zoo areas were a complete hit! Most importantly, the free event provided information to seniors on health services available in the SouthCoast area. Photo by Anne OBrien-Kakley
