Freezin' for a Reason 2014338 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. Olde Field Farm338 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust and the Rochester Land hosted a joint walk at the Olde Field Farm property on the afternoon of Sunday, February 23. Hikers walked through the pinewood trails and through the frozen wetlands surrounding the Mattapoisett River, looking for animal tracks in the snow and admiring the natural beauty Rochester has to offer. Strengthening Families Fair338 viewsThere was so much to do and discover on March 1 at the “Strengthening Families Fair”, funded by the Department of Early Education & Care, and coordinated by the Old Rochester Regional School District. Boy Scouts of Marion, Troop 32338 viewsThe Boy Scouts of Marion, Troop 32 recently took part in a Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Class at the Marion Fire Department that was arranged by Star Scout Chris Horton. Firefighters Mike Enright and Kevin Buckley taught a Friends and Family version of CPR class in two hours. The Scouts got hands on experience in what it takes to save a life and the dangers therein.

Intro to TV Production338 viewsAs a culminating activity, Old Rochester Regional High School students in Intro to TV Production, Video Journalism and Bulldog TV, traveled to Boston to view a live broadcast of the noon news at WBZ-TV, a CBS affiliate. Mike Noyce, set designer at WBZ led the group on a tour of the facility. Students were able to view the live broadcast of the news both from the control room and in the studio. After the newscast, anchor Paula Ebben and Meteorologist Barry Burbank fielded questions from the group.
