Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol 386 viewsYes, the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol really does exist and, yes, people actually do win – just ask John Hall of Rochester! Wearing only socks on his feet, Hall exited his Snipatuit Road home on April 15 and was greeted by PCH Prize Patroller Howie Guja who was holding a giant check for $50,000 with Hall’s name on it, roses, and a bottle of bubbly. Rochester Fire Department386 viewsThe Rochester Board of Selectmen made it official on May 6 when they signed the contract making Fire Chief Scott Weigel Rochester’s first ever full-time fire chief. Weigel was sworn in surrounded by family and firefighters in formal dress from Rochester and surrounding towns. Outside the party gathered for photos and left with celebratory sirens. Antiques in Rochester385 viewsGinny Decker brought a pair of Victorian era frames to be appraised at Rochester Woman's Club Antique and Collectible show. These frames contain photos of her grandparents Nathaniel and Betsy Barros. Betsy Barros was the cousin of Lavinia Warren Stratton, the wife of General Tom Thumb who was made famous by P.T. Barnum. Rochester turned 340 385 viewsHey, hey, it’s your birthday, Rochester! Rochester turned 340 years old on June 4, and the third grade class from RMS was invited to celebrate with some cake and ice cream at the senior center on Tuesday. Students started the day with a tour around historic Rochester before breaking for lunch and sharing a large birthday cake with seniors. Students also received a free “Rochester 340” t-shirt, courtesy of a grant that funded the students’ birthday gifts. Photos by Jean Perry
