Society for Creative Anachronism302 viewsThe Society for Creative Anachronism visited a farm in Rochester on Sunday, June 7 for its medieval armored combat competition, the 2015 Baronial Thrown Weapons and Archery Championship. The local SCA group, “The Barony of Smoking Rocks,” is a group of lovers of all things from Renaissance and medieval history, who fully immerse themselves in it with authentic costume and activities. First Congregational Church of Rochester302 viewsThe bell of the First Congregational Church of Rochester rang above the center of Rochester for the last time this morning, November 20, before it was lowered from the church’s belfry via crane to the ground, the final step of the renovation on the church. The historic bell, created in 1892 by an apprentice of Paul Revere III, grandson to our famous bell maker Paul Revere, will be refurbished and put in storage for some time before it is returned to the church. Rochester Memorial Day302 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. At the Town Hall, the names of the fallen soldiers were read aloud and the Rochester Memorial School Band played patriotic songs before heading out for the parade. Photos by Colin Veitch
