Shoolman Reserve281 viewsIf you've been to the Shoolman Reserve on New Bedford Road recently, you’ve been greeted by quite a mess. A project to restore the Shoolman Reserve Hayfield to its historic boundary is underway. Volunteers Bruce MacPhail, Mike Bare, Art Benner, Noreen Hartley, Mike Hugeunin, Bob Lawrence, and Pete Stroud have made quite a dent thus far, and quite a lot of piles. The two separate races were run simultaneously, beginning and ending at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School on Saturday February 1. Buttonwood Park Zoo’s Annual Poetry Contest280 viewsAlyssa Clancy, a fifth grade student at the Rochester Memorial School, took second place in the Buttonwood Park Zoo’s annual poetry contest. Alyssa’s poem entitled “The Suffolk Punch Draft Horse” took second place in the 5th grade category. Over three hundred entries were submitted from across the Southcoast from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Alyssa took second place last year in the 4th grade category and was the only repeat award winner.
