Frosty Runner Road Race321 viewsRunners who participated in the third annual Frosty Runner Road Race enjoyed spring-like weather, perfect for a 10 mile or 3 mile run through the neighborhoods of Rochester. The two separate races were run simultaneously, beginning and ending at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School on Saturday February 1. The race was rescheduled from January 25, when the weather was a little too frosty for the event. Photo by Jean Perry

Buttonwood Park Zoo’s Annual Poetry Contest321 viewsAlyssa Clancy, a fifth grade student at the Rochester Memorial School, took second place in the Buttonwood Park Zoo’s annual poetry contest. Alyssa’s poem entitled “The Suffolk Punch Draft Horse” took second place in the 5th grade category. Over three hundred entries were submitted from across the Southcoast from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Alyssa took second place last year in the 4th grade category and was the only repeat award winner.

Lost Ladybug Project321 viewsGuided by Loree Griffin Burns, children headed out on May 30 from Plumb Library to search for ladybugs to photograph and document for the Lost Ladybug Project. In all, the kids found five ladybugs. The event was funded by a MOBY grant and organized by the RMS PTOs, the RLT, Kathy Gauvin at ORR, and the three town Cultural Councils. Mass Mini Tractor Pullers 321 viewsThe Rochester Country Fairgrounds hosted a tractor pull of the Mass Mini Tractor Pullers Association on October 10. The tractors are hand-built by their owners, using naturally-aspirated auto engines that are 500-1,000 horsepower. First Congregational Church of Rochester321 viewsThe bell of the First Congregational Church of Rochester rang above the center of Rochester for the last time this morning, November 20, before it was lowered from the church’s belfry via crane to the ground, the final step of the renovation on the church. The historic bell, created in 1892 by an apprentice of Paul Revere III, grandson to our famous bell maker Paul Revere, will be refurbished and put in storage for some time before it is returned to the church.
