Veteran's Day 2013321 viewsThe Tri-Town honored veterans on Monday with moving programs. In Marion, the parade included Cub Scout Pack 32, Master of Ceremonies Joe Napoli, and the Sippican School Band. In Mattpoisett, Daniel Mazzuca gave a speech that focused on what our country can do for veterans in need of jobs, housing, and mental health services. Frosty Runner Road Race321 viewsRunners who participated in the third annual Frosty Runner Road Race enjoyed spring-like weather, perfect for a 10 mile or 3 mile run through the neighborhoods of Rochester. The two separate races were run simultaneously, beginning and ending at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School on Saturday February 1. Buttonwood Park Zoo’s Annual Poetry Contest321 viewsAlyssa Clancy, a fifth grade student at the Rochester Memorial School, took second place in the Buttonwood Park Zoo’s annual poetry contest. Alyssa’s poem entitled “The Suffolk Punch Draft Horse” took second place in the 5th grade category. Over three hundred entries were submitted from across the Southcoast from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Alyssa took second place last year in the 4th grade category and was the only repeat award winner.

Science Roadshow321 viewsThe Children’s Museum in Easton brought its Science Roadshow to the Plumb Library on August 6, and showed kids how to make a rocket out of a film canister (remember those?) and an Alka-Seltzer, and create sizzling artwork with vinegar, food coloring, and baking soda. Rochester Country Fair 2014321 viewsWhat do you get when you combine the smell of Italian sausage mixed with diesel exhaust and cow manure, the sound of loud tractor engines drowning out the live country music with the occasional barn animal noise, and the sight of happy Southcoast folks in overalls? The sublime sensory experience that is the Rochester Country Fair! What is more fun than four fun-filled days of frog racing, tractor pulling, mechanic bull riding, and fried food eating?
