Homecoming Queens 286 viewsColleen Oakes, originally from Marion, and Renee Buteyne, from Rochester, finished the trip of a lifetime on Monday, July 16, having ridden across the United States on their bicycles. Leaving Portland, Oregon on May 2, the two childhood friends arrived at Buteyne’s parents’ driveway about a month earlier than anticipated, greeted by family, friends, confetti, cookies, and of course, hugs. Escorted by several Rochester policemen on foot, participants who had gathered in front of Town Hall marched down Dexter Lane to the police station, where several individuals spoke about racism and told stories of discrimination based on skin color. Flag Day Ceremony 285 viewsRochester Memorial School 4th Grade held an all school Flag Day ceremony on June 14th honoring and thanking community first responders. Commencing this energy filled event was the raising of the flag to the National Anthem followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Acknowledgements to a fantastic show of local and state police, fire fighters, EMT’s, veterans and serving military heroes was presented through 4th grade students and famous poems, songs and personal thank yous.
