The pinewood derby is a tradition that was started back in 1963 in Manhattan Beach, California and persists to this day. Lost Ladybug Project326 viewsGuided by Loree Griffin Burns, children headed out on May 30 from Plumb Library to search for ladybugs to photograph and document for the Lost Ladybug Project. In all, the kids found five ladybugs. The event was funded by a MOBY grant and organized by the RMS PTOs, the RLT, Kathy Gauvin at ORR, and the three town Cultural Councils. Mass Mini Tractor Pullers 326 viewsThe Rochester Country Fairgrounds hosted a tractor pull of the Mass Mini Tractor Pullers Association on October 10. The tractors are hand-built by their owners, using naturally-aspirated auto engines that are 500-1,000 horsepower. Rochester Country Fair 326 viewsThe Rochester Country Fair rolled into town on Thursday, August 18, filled the air with the sweet smells of Italian sausage and fried fair food, mixed with the smoke of diesel engines, and created that magical scent we all relish until the fair wrapped up on Sunday, August 21. Tractor pulls, animal shows, kids’ games, music, and wrestling (including the match between The Aardvark and Buck Chuck) delighted us while it lasted in the bucolic setting of Rochester, Massachusetts. Christmas Baskets326 viewsOn Tuesday, December 20, Rochester Facilities Manager Andrew Daniel was tying perfect Christmas bows to top off gift baskets for Rochester families purchased with donations from Town Hall staff and town boards and committees. Four families this year will receive a Christmas meal in a basket thanks to the efforts of all at Town Hall. Altogether $1,400 was raised at Town Hall, with half going to the gift baskets and the other half towards other town Christmas charities. Photos by Jean Perry
