Nolanfest77 viewsNearing the fifth anniversary of the passing of Nolan Gibbons, Nolanfest 2025 was held at Silvershell Beach this past Saturday evening. Hundreds were in attendance to pay tribute, remember, and support local singers and musical artists. Over 20 different performances occurred at the stage, including The Showstoppers, of which Nolan was a member beginning in 2014 at the age of nine. Pumpkin Palooza76 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

Marion Natural History Museum76 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a terrific time constructing their own rockets for launching. This program was so popular it had to be offered twice! The kids had a hands-on introduction to the engineering principles of propulsion and lift. Every rocket managed a successful launch hundreds of feet in the air, and most were safely carried down by the parachutes. We found Painted Skimmers, Fragile Forktails and Green Darners as well as several Blue Azure butterflies. Crocodile River Music76 viewsOn Saturday, May 17, as part of Art Week, the Marion Arts Center presented Crocodile River Music performing West African music and dance in Marion's Music Hall to an audience of about 70 people. A few children danced happily along with members of Crocodile River Music during several pieces. For the final piece of the event, almost everyone was up and dancing. The energy was terrific.
