Marion Natural History Museum94 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's July Coastal Exploration group had a fun week exploring some of Marion's natural areas. We examined green frog tadpoles and a frog metamorphosis, were invited to explore Ram Island, visited the donkeys and learned about filter feeders, including some of the largest ones like whales. We explored a salt marsh, cleaned up a rocky beach at Planting Island and removed the plastic waste from the wrack line before it entered or reentered the bay. Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Leid

Marion Natural History Museum94 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's Coastal Exploration group had a wonderful time last week exploring Marion's shoreline, inland wetlands and woodland areas. We collected examples of plankton, caught fish and frogs in our nets, investigated tide pools and took trips to Bird and Ram Island. The museum would like to thank Hannah Moore and David Wilson and Andrew Miller of the Marion Harbormaster Department for their help in making it such a special week. St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church 94 viewsSt. Gabriel's Episcopal Church of Marion friends and families gathered after the morning service to make advent wreaths. An advent wreath is a circle of greenery, marked by four candles that represent the four Sundays of the season of Advent. An additional candle is lit as each new Sunday is celebrated in Advent. The making of advent wreaths on the first Sunday of Advent has become a tradition for St. Gabriel's Church. Come and join us next year. Photos courtesy of Tanya Ambrosi

Blessing of the Fleet94 viewsThe Reverend Eric Fialho, rector at Saint Gabriel’s Parish, presided as the Town of Marion held its first-ever Blessing of the Fleet on January 1 in Sippican Harbor. One tradition well established the past half-dozen years was the sunflower in the outer harbor, where several vessels tied up to one another at the stern and aimed their bows outward toward the sea in 360-degree formation. Marion Natural History Museum94 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Justin Barrett for his excellent program on learning how to bird watch. The kids had a lesson on using binoculars and had a chance to practice outside. Although it was getting dark, we saw a Junco, several sparrows, and took a close up look at squirrel nest. Thank you, Justin. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold.
