The event was sponsored by the Marion Recreation Department in partnership with Marion’s Police, Fire and DPW departments. Marion Museum of Natural History98 viewsThe Marion Museum of Natural History celebrated its 150th anniversary with a Friday night discussion on the 700-pound meteorite Coahuila, led by Mark Munkacsy. Later in the evening, Ted and Elizabeth Brainard visited Coahuila with Executive Director Liz Leidhold, while Treasurer Mike Cronin set up a telescope on the sidewalk out front of the Elizabeth Taber Library where attendees took turns viewing Jupiter and its moons. The students had a chance to take a close look at some of the artifacts he's found in his backyard and were shown how to use a metal detector to help find some of these items.

Bird Island98 viewsMany thanks to Marion Harbormaster Isaac Perry and the whole harbormaster crew for giving us the experience of a lifetime exploring the nesting habitats of the Common and Roseate Terns when they're in our area. Marion Art Center98 viewsThe Marion Art Center held its annual Art in Bloom exhibition June 22-24 featuring floral arrangements inspired by the paintings of Stephen and Anne (Carrozza) Remick. Fifteen pieces coupled with art hanging on the gallery walls gave life to the spaces and included traditional flower-arranging techniques and imaginative fairy landscapes of tiny mosses. Blessing of the Fleet98 viewsThe Reverend Eric Fialho, rector at Saint Gabriel’s Parish, presided as the Town of Marion held its first-ever Blessing of the Fleet on January 1 in Sippican Harbor. One tradition well established the past half-dozen years was the sunflower in the outer harbor, where several vessels tied up to one another at the stern and aimed their bows outward toward the sea in 360-degree formation.
