Fire Department Open House20 viewsOn October 10 and 11, Marion and Mattapoisett Fire Departments held open houses featuring plenty of fun for children of all ages. The occasion was the National Fire Prevention Week.
Since 1922, the National Fire Protection Association has been helping local fire departments with educational materials related to fire safety.

Marion Natural History Museum20 viewsOn Saturday, October 18, the Museum Community Program participants enjoyed a beautiful fall day walking Rochester's Shoolman Preserve looking for mushrooms. Mushroom enthusiast Adam Korejwa led our walk through the Oak and Pine upland forest looking for these fascinating specimens. We heard about how the mushroom is merely the fruiting body of the wide network of mycelium which connects all plant and fungal species in order to exchange nutrients and warns of adverse conditions. Marion Veterans Day 20 viewsThe Town of Marion held Veterans Day ceremonies at Old Landing, where Marion resident and retired Navy Captain William J. Hollman gave the keynote address. Presiding was the Benjamin D. Cushing VFW Post 2425 Color Guard. The community also heard from Old Rochester Regional High School freshman James Devoll, who read the Governor's Proclamation, along with Town Administrator Geoff Gorman, Select Board Chairman Norm Hills, Reverend Eric W. Osterday, and the Sippican Elementary School band

Sippican Lands Trust 20 viewsSippican Lands Trust was pleased to officially open the Hoff Property parking lot and connecting trail to White Eagle on Route 6, with the help of Selectman Randy Parker. Mr. Parker cut the ceremonial ribbon, as he was instrumental in securing the land required for the project, by working with MOSAC, BBC, and SLT. Marion Natural History Museum19 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's July Coastal Exploration group had a fun week exploring some of Marion's natural areas. We examined green frog tadpoles and a frog metamorphosis, were invited to explore Ram Island, visited the donkeys and learned about filter feeders, including some of the largest ones like whales. We explored a salt marsh, cleaned up a rocky beach at Planting Island and removed the plastic waste from the wrack line before it entered or reentered the bay. Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Leid

Marion Natural History Museum19 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's Coastal Exploration group had a wonderful time last week exploring Marion's shoreline, inland wetlands and woodland areas. We collected examples of plankton, caught fish and frogs in our nets, investigated tide pools and took trips to Bird and Ram Island.
