The birds were beautifully colored and with beaks well designed for eating fruit, their primary food source. Along with the magnificent bird specimens we also saw several monkeys and other exotic animals from Justin’s trip. The museum wishes to thank Justin for sharing his amazing birding adventure with us on a dark and dreary winter morning.

Textile artist Paula Stebbins Becker believes that the works connect memories to visual works equally in complexity to the human mind. The sightings included a large “raft” of sleepy Greater Scaup, Canada Geese, American Black Duck, Surf Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Horned Grebe, Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull, Common Loon, American Crow, American Robin, House Finch, Song Sparrow and Northern Cardinal. Summer Reading Program142 viewsAs a kickoff to the summer reading program at the Elizabeth Taber Library and summer Natural History Museum programming, the Town of Marion was treated to a visit from a full-size whale, two very large dinosaurs and one baby dino named Spike. The Summer Block Party event held on June 24 started inside the Music Hall due to weather but later moved outside. The event also featured faux archeology digs and face painting. The event included musical entertainment by Tri-County musicians, Grades 4 and 5 bands from Sippican Elementary School, Sippican Historical Society carolers and Tabor Academy students, horse-drawn carriage rides, street entertainment, seasonal refreshments courtesy of area merchants, goodie bags from VASE, and crafts for kids. Sponsored by the Marion Art Center, Weeden spoke on all matters indigenous from languages to the creation story shared by many nations. Weeden also noted the use of wampum (created from quahog shells) to make jewelry and as a form of monetary exchange.
